At AIUSA ACAD, we aim to make a lasting impact in the Athens Academy community and beyond. Our initiatives and activities are centered around student participation and ideas. But above all, justice is at the heart and soul of everything that we do.
ABOUT
MAKE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD
As a student chapter of Amnesty International USA, our mission is driven by that of our parent organization: to protect and empower people. We speak out for anyone and everyone whose freedom and dignity are under threat.
Our student club (AIUSA-ACAD) emerged from the interest expressed by several students in promoting the construction of a fairer, more inclusive world in which all people enjoy basic rights for their condition of being - well - humans. When we began floating the idea of establishing a student club about human rights, many of our classmates dismissed the idea, mainly because they didn't know what human rights entail. Far from discouraging us, this solidified our resolve even more.
WHAT WE DO
OUR FIGHT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
VOLUNTEERING
Nothing like hands-on involvement to actually make the change we desire come to fruition. We do several service projects, both independently as well as with other on-campus groups.
ADVOCACY
Because simply yelling into the void is rather pointless, we articulate campaigns to reach and sway decision-makers, such as local and state officials.
EDUCATION
Knowing what we fight for is crucial, that's why we provide our members with materials, courses, discussions, and presentations about human rights, their historical developments and current status, both in the US and abroad.
